On Saturday 22 April, 266 ladies fought for the singles title of the Open Germany tournament for 2007. As the tournament progressed all but one of the 8 seeds won their way through to the quarter finals. No fewer than 7 were LDA members. Francis Hoenselaar ( seed 1 ), Anastasia Dobromyslova, ( 4 ), Carla Molema ( 5 ) , Irina Armstrong ( 6 ), Tricia Wright ( 7 ), Carina Ekberg ( 8 ) and Inita Bite, unseeded. The last 16 results can be seen below:
| A great win for Carina, one that moves her up around 40 places in the LDA rankings to 8th place. The results mean that Irina Armstrong takes over the top spot, with Francis Hoenselaar moving second, Trina Gulliver dropping to third and Anastasia Dobromylsova fourth, the full rankings can be seen by clicking the link on the left. | Sunday
The sunday saw the ladies couples take place. One of the favourites was last years winners, Francis Hoenselaar and Rilana Erades. Unfortunately for them things didn’t go so well this year, losing from eventual finalists Dee Bateman and Louise Hepburn 3 – 0 in the last 8. In the other half of the draw, the singles winner from saturday, Carina Ekberg, teamed up for the first time with Russias Irina Armstrong, and what a great pairing it turned out to be. The couple won their way through to the final where they took the title with a 3 – 0 win over Dee and Louise.
A fantastic weekend for Carina with two first places. |
